Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I enter more than one tournament?
Yes. All entrants can participate in up to three tournaments: singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
- Entry fee: £5 to enter one tournament, or £10 to enter all three.
What if I am going on holiday this summer?
The schedule allows plenty of time for holidays! With some shrewd scheduling, you can lie on a beach for two weeks and still comfortably play all your matches.
What if I am away for Finals weekend?
Please do not enter this competition if you are not available to play the weekend of 12–13 September. All finals are scheduled for Saturday 12 September. In the event of rain, matches will be held the next day (Sunday 13 September); otherwise, the times and dates cannot be adjusted.
How does the doubles work?
Everyone enters individually for the Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. We use a balanced format, pairing stronger players with less experienced players. This is a highly popular format used by tennis clubs up and down the country—it’s fun and gives everyone a fair chance to make it to Finals Day!
How will the singles work?
This is more straightforward, featuring a standard, knockout, Wimbledon-style format. Depending on the volume of entries, we will consider a singles “Plate” competition for players knocked out in the first round. Seedings will be determined by the tournament director.
Sell it to me!
- Meet the club: It’s a fantastic way to meet and compete against other players.
- Anyone can win: Our unique doubles format gives everyone a fighting chance. You might just surprise yourself.
- A great atmosphere: Finals Day is a fun gathering that brings the club together. We are planning ways to pep it up this year—there will be bunting!
- Great value: You can enter all three events for just a tenner.
- Glory: You could get your name engraved on a real silver trophy.
Help needed:
We need hands-on help on the day. Specifically, we are looking for a larger vehicle or truck to transport two largish umpire chairs. If you have one available, or if you can help out on the day or in the buildup to the event, please contact Conrad.
