St Ann’s Tennis has received a major boost after the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) formally confirmed its support for the club’s planning application to install new LED court lighting.
The backing from the sport’s national governing body strengthens the case for the project, which aims to expand playing opportunities and meet growing community demand for accessible tennis in Brighton.
St Ann’s Tennis Planning Application for Court Lighting
James Deem, LTA Delivery Manager for the region, has been following the club’s progress closely and has written in support of the proposal. In his letter, he highlights the shortage of floodlit community tennis courts across the city and the importance of projects like this in addressing that gap. He also notes that the new lighting would increase usable court time by around 30 per cent, while providing a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable solution through modern LED technology.
James adds: “St Anns is 9% up in terms of the number of available hours that have been booked 2024 – 2025 calendar year (64% occupancy – which in itself is high). That is significant growth and reflective of the work you do.”
With the LTA’s endorsement now in place, the club is hopeful that a planning decision will be reached within the next month, bringing St Ann’s a significant step closer to extending year-round tennis opportunities for players of all ages and abilities.
