We are launching Box Leagues at St Ann’s Tennis.
These are fun, inter-club competitive tennis mini-leagues for St Ann’s Tennis members. Each league season (two months approximately) costs £5 to enter.
We will be using a new bespoke online scoring system, which will allow players to enter their scores immediately after matches, with league tables updating in real time. This can be done online or via your mobile phone.
Conrad says: “We are starting with traditional tennis singles leagues, for men and for women. Female players can enter the women’s league OR, if they prefer, the Open (Men’s) league. Each league will include 7-8 players, and each match should be mutually arranged between players, using our St Ann’s Tennis WhatsApp groups. This is all singles for now, but we are planning some doubles leagues for 2024.”
“I am going to have the tough job of allocating players to the different groups. I will call on some of you for advice. It’s not going to be a perfect ‘ranking’, but that’s fine. The divisions will sort themselves out over time. If you feel the allocations don’t do you justice, go out and prove us wrong.”
Our very first singles leagues should be ready to start Saturday 21 October, so please register before the deadline (Friday 20 October). [please note changed dates, moved forward one week] Top tip: book a court in advance as soon as you can.

Box league matches will be played as best-of-three sets. The first 2 sets will be regular sets with a standard 7 point tie break played if the score reaches 6 games all. If the score is one all after 2 sets, players have an option to play a third set, OR a championship tie break (first to 10 points, 2 points clear) should both players agree.
5 points – straight sets win
4 points – 3 sets win (including wins by Championship Tie Breaker as a third set decider)
2 points – Lost in 3 sets
1 point – – Lost in straight sets
When you enter your scores, our online scoring system will automatically calculate the points, eg. Player A def. Player B 6-4, 4-6, 7-5: four points automatically awarded to Player A, and two points automatically awarded to Player B.
Prizes: we’ll be giving out a set of premium Dunlop match balls for the winner of each league. Remember, it’s the taking part that counts 🙂
LTA ranking points. All results will be entered into the LTA ranking system. You’ll need to use an LTA log in for this to work (which most of you have). If you’re not sure, but would like to register, it’s free. Click here. Important: make sure you use the same log in details as you to for St Ann’s. Any problems, contact: ClubSpark
